Dutchland is pleased to welcome John Hillard as the Manager of Safety, Education and Training. John joined Dutchland in September and is tasked with leading Dutchland’s safety efforts.
John’s goal as the Manager of Safety, Education & Training is to move Dutchland from a compliance-focused program to a risk-based, human focused safety culture. In the short time that John has been at Dutchland, he has:
- Made improvements to the corporate fleet policy
- Addressed fall protection weak points in both precast and construction
- Reduced manual handling of equipment and materials being prepared in the warehouse
- Implemented high visibility clothing in our yard to prevent struck by equipment injuries
- Created a new risk assessment process for the company
He is licensed by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP). John completed his studies at Millersville University of Pennsylvania and holds bachelor’s degrees in Occupational Safety and Health, as well as Industry and Technology.
Prior to joining Dutchland, John worked as the safety manager for Giorgi Mushroom Company, overseeing the safety and health program for 1,200 employees. He also spent 6 years working to improve the safety culture of 150 client companies while working as safety consultant for regional insurance agency, Murray Securus.
After looking at our safety program and history, John noted: “I am impressed with safety culture that has been growing at Dutchland. From John Hillard standing on a industrial size forklifteach individual employee and subcontractor, to the way we interact with our clients, general contractors, other trades on the job site, safety is always kept in the forefront.”
John’s goal is to constantly work to identify, reduce and eliminate risks to improve our work process. This enables Dutchland to continue to provide outstanding quality and service to our customers in a way that is safe for all involved.”
John lives in Lancaster with his wife, Jodi, and two young sons, Jack (age 6) and Abel (age 2). In his free time, he enjoys woodworking, working as a volunteer for Men of Iron, learning about how things work and get made and cheering on the Eagles!
